Equal Pay Act

 

Overview

The Equal Pay Act of 1963 bars payment to an employee of one sex at a different rate than payment to an employee of the other sex for equal work. The "equal work" assessment is performed for jobs requiring equal skills, effort and responsibility under similar working conditions.
